Gonzales, LA (11/15/2025) – The motorcyclist killed in Ascension Parish crash died in a two-vehicle collision Friday night. Louisiana State Police Troop A responded shortly after 9:00 p.m. on November 14, 2025.
The crash occurred on LA 44, just north of Lee Drive in Gonzales.
Troopers say 40-year-old Joshua Dunaway of Prairieville rode a 2024 Suzuki motorcycle north on LA 44. Meanwhile, a 2024 GMC Sierra turned right from Lee Drive onto LA 44. The motorcycle then struck the rear of the Sierra.
Dunaway suffered severe injuries and died on the scene. He wore a DOT-approved helmet at the time. The GMC driver was restrained and uninjured. Although impairment is unknown, troopers collected routine toxicology samples. The crash remains under investigation.
Troopers urge drivers to avoid impaired or distracted driving and follow all traffic laws. They also encourage motorcyclists to use protective gear and complete approved safety courses.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed Dunaway served in its Motors Division and released the following message:
“Joshua was more than a coworker. He was a friend, a teammate, and a loving father. His loss is felt across our agency. We ask that you keep his family, friends, and his APSO family in your thoughts and prayers.”
The Gonzales Police Department also shared a tribute. Chief Sherman Jackson said Dunaway began his law enforcement career with GPD and remained family even after joining APSO. He released the following statement:
“Josh carried himself with quiet confidence and a genuine desire to serve. He was steady, dependable, and committed to doing things the right way. He was the kind of officer you trusted immediately and the partner you were grateful to have beside you. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and stand with APSO during this difficult time.”
Funeral arrangements will be released once finalized.
