Mistakenly Released Inmate Back in Custody in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (1/26/2025) – A mistakenly released inmate is back in custody after being located in Baton Rouge on Monday.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Christopher Davis was mistakenly released from the East Carroll Parish Detention Center. Davis was dropped off at the Greyhound bus station in Baton Rouge on Friday, January 24.

Law enforcement agencies worked together to locate him quickly. Davis, initially arrested for a 2022 shooting that killed 37-year-old Deandre Duncan, faces charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

Authorities said Davis has been housed at East Carroll Parish for months and wasn’t scheduled to return to Baton Rouge until his next court date on March 17.

Officials are still investigating how and why the mistakenly released inmate was let go. Davis is now back in custody at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
