Mass Shooting in New Orleans Leave 2 Dead and 10 Injured

New Orleans, LA (11/18/2024) – Mass Shooting in New Orleans on Sunday, November 17, 2024, left two people dead and 10 others injured in the St. Roch neighborhood.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is actively investigating these tragic incidents.

The first shooting occurred around 3:38 p.m. in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue. Officers assigned to a nearby second-line parade responded after hearing gunfire. They found eight victims with gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported that a car fired into the crowd, injuring nine people. All victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Approximately 45 minutes later, officers responded to a second shooting at Almonaster and Florida avenues. Upon arrival, they found two victims. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries at a hospital. A third victim from this incident sought private medical attention and is in stable condition.

Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed that the second-line event was shut down as part of the investigation. She added that initial reports suggest the shots during the second shooting came from within the crowd, as cars were restricted in the area.

State Officials Expressed Concerns

Governor Jeff Landry expressed his condolences on X formerly Twitter, stating, “A tragic scene in the St. Roch neighborhood this evening. Sharon and I are praying for all involved and we are grateful to the first responders who rushed to the scene. The violence must end.”

Attorney General Liz Murrill also commented on X, saying, “I’m saddened to learn about this senseless mass shooting in New Orleans this afternoon. I’m praying for the victims & their families. This kind of lawlessness will NOT be tolerated.”
