Alexandria, La. (5/11/2026) – The Alexandria Police Department announced Monday afternoon that an arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting that claimed the life of 4-year-old Londen Austin.
According to police, 25-year-old Cartavis Austin was arrested Sunday, May 10, 2026, during the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident that occurred in the 3000 block of Houston Street.
Authorities identified Cartavis Austin as the father of Londen Austin.
Police charged Austin with one count of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
The Cartavis Austin arrest comes one day after Londen died from a gunshot wound sustained during what investigators described as an accidental shooting involving children inside a residence following a birthday party.
The Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office previously confirmed Londen died at Christus Cabrini Emergency Room. An autopsy remains pending.
Investigators stated two four-year-old children were allegedly inside the residence and playing unsupervised with a stolen firearm that was illegally possessed when the weapon discharged.
Londen was a Pre-K student at Alma Redwine Elementary School. His death has shaken families, educators, and residents throughout Central Louisiana.
