Potential Drowning Incident Reported Near Bayou Boeuf

Lecompte, LA (May 24, 2024) — A potential tragic drowning incident occurred Thursday evening near Bayou Boeuf, as reported by the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 6:30 PM on May 23, 2024, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call about a person who had fallen into Bayou Boeuf near the weir off of LA 112. According to witnesses, an individual fishing near the weir slipped down the concrete embankment and was swiftly carried away by the current. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

A coordinated search operation was immediately initiated, involving deputies from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Lecompte Police Department, District 18 Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Additional assets from Cheneyville, Alexandria, Pineville, and RPSO are also on the scene to aid in the search efforts.

Due to the severe current at the weir, search operations were suspended around 9 PM last night. Efforts resumed early this morning and are set to continue throughout the day.

No further information is available at this time, but updates will be provided as they become available.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office asks the public to keep everyone involved in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.
