Deputy-Involved Shooting Occurs in City of Many

Many, LA (2/26/2024) – Sheriff Aaron Mitchell has reported a deputy-involved shooting incident that took place this morning, February 26, 2024, in the City of Many, off Louisiana Avenue.

The incident unfolded shortly after 9:15 AM, when Sabine Parish Sheriff Deputies were in pursuit of James Olin Manshack Jr (age-36) of Many.

Manshack was being sought for State Probation/Parole violations and several Failure to Register as a Sex Offender charges.

Deputies spotted Manshack on a porch at a residence on Taylor Street. Upon seeing the deputies, Manshack fled towards Winnie Drive and McClain Circle. Deputies pursued Manshack behind a residence off McClain Circle, where Manshack then pointed a pistol and fired at one of the deputies. In response, the deputy discharged their weapon, striking Manshack once in the leg.

Following the altercation, Manshack was transported to Ochsner LSU Medical Center in Shreveport for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, the deputy involved in the incident was unharmed.

Manshack now faces multiple felony charges, including Attempted First Degree Murder of a Peace Officer.

The case remains under investigation, and no further details are available at this time.
