New Orleans, LA (1/1/2024) – A Bourbon Street terrorist attack in New Orleans has left at least 10 people dead and 30 others injured early this morning. Around 3 a.m., a vehicle slammed into a crowd near Bourbon Street and Canal Street, leaving behind a scene of devastation.
Witnesses described the incident as intentional. One said the driver of a white pickup truck deliberately bypassed barricades and accelerated into the crowd. The suspect also fired a gun while driving, targeting as many people as possible, according to bystanders.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell condemned the act, calling it a “terrorist attack.” Law enforcement officials confirmed the suspect was shot and killed by police after exiting the vehicle with an assault rifle.
Emergency medical services (NOEMS) transported 30 injured individuals to local hospitals. Multiple EMS units remain at the scene to assist victims. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) continues its investigation into the tragic events.
Governor Jeff Landry expressed his condolences, writing on X, “A horrific act of violence took place on Bourbon Street earlier this morning. Please join Sharon and me in praying for all the victims and first responders on scene. I urge all near the scene to avoid the area.”
