Newport News, VA (1/7/2023) – According to the Newport News Police, a 6-year-old male student at Richneck Elementary School is in custody.
The victim, a teacher, is suffering injuries believed to be life-threatening.
Multiple parents have confirmed the teacher who was struck by the bullet in her classroom as Abby Zwerner.

Newport News police are on the scene of a shooting at Richneck Elementary School. No students were injured in this incident. An adult was taken to a local hospital. The extent of the adult’s injuries is unknown at this time. There is no longer an active shooter. We’re beginning the process of reuniting parents with students. More information will be released when it is available.
