Rapides Parish Reminds Residents of Fireworks Rules Ahead of Fourth of July

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (UrbanCast: 7/2/2026) — As Independence Day celebrations begin, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to enjoy fireworks responsibly while following parish ordinances designed to protect public safety and neighborhood peace.

Deputies say they receive complaints every year about fireworks disturbing the peace. They typically issue a warning on the first complaint. However, repeat violations may result in a citation. If a juvenile is responsible, parents may also be cited.

Under parish ordinance, fireworks are prohibited within 25 yards of a public road, within 50 yards of a church or school, and within residential subdivisions in the parish. Residents who live inside incorporated cities should also check local ordinances, as municipal rules may differ.

The sheriff’s office also encourages residents to put safety first. Keep a water hose or fire extingure nearby in case a fire starts. Although recent rainfall has lowered the fire risk, officials say precautions remain important.

Authorities are also asking everyone to be considerate of their neighbors. Fireworks can disturb nearby residents, trigger post-traumatic stress symptoms for some veterans, and cause significant distress for pets.

For those planning to attend a public celebration, the City of Pineville will host Fireworks Over Buhlow on Friday, July 3.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office wishes everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July and encourages families to celebrate responsibly while respecting their neighbors and community.
