NATIONAL: Kauai helicopter crash leaves 3 dead, 2 injured near Kalalau Beach

Kauaʻi County, Hawaii, (3/29/2026) — A helicopter crash near Kalalau Beach in Kauai left three people dead and two others injured Thursday afternoon.

Kauaʻi Police said dispatch received a text-to-911 message around 3:45 p.m. reporting a crash in the ocean.

Officials identified the aircraft as an Airborne Aviation helicopter. It carried one pilot and four passengers.

The Kauai helicopter crash resulted in three fatalities at the scene. Meanwhile, first responders transported two survivors to Wilcox Medical Center.

Multiple agencies responded to the crash. Crews included Kauaʻi Police, Hanalei fire personnel, and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1.

In addition, the U.S. Coast Guard assisted with the response. The Kauaʻi Emergency Management Agency, American Medical Response, and the Department of Land and Natural Resources also responded.

Officials have not released the identities of those involved. They have not confirmed the cause of the crash.

Authorities said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
