Grant Parish, La. (9/14/2025) – Louisiana State Police Troop E confirmed a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 165 north of Louisiana Highway 524 that claimed the life of a Woodworth man early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred on September 14, 2025, at approximately 2:45 a.m. when 54-year-old Derrick L. Mason of Woodworth was driving a 2020 Freightliner southbound on Highway 165.
For reasons still under investigation, Mason lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway, strike several trees, and overturn.
Authorities reported that Mason was not restrained at the time of the crash. He sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis.
While investigators continue to determine the exact cause, Louisiana State Police noted that distracted and inattentive driving remain among the leading causes of crashes statewide.
Motorists are urged to stay alert, as even a brief lapse in awareness can have deadly consequences.
On behalf of UrbanCast and InvolvedInItAll.com, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Derrick L. Mason during this difficult time.
