“Bad Paperwork” or Bad Leadership? Police Jury VP Silent After Worker Deportations

ALEXANDRIA, La. (7/28/2025) – Five employees of SLM Lawn Care were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Friday morning in Alexandria, according to business owner and Rapides Parish Police Juror Sean McGlothlin.

In an interview with KALB published Sunday, July 27, McGlothlin said he and his crew were cutting grass at a local restaurant when ICE agents arrived. He confirmed five employees were detained and have since been deported to Mexico. He attributed the deportations to “bad paperwork” and said he intends to help them return with proper work visas. UrbanCast began receiving direct messages from concerned residents and business figures almost immediately. One message read: “Sean McGlothlin had five of his employees picked up by ICE. I think it is pretty newsworthy that the vice president of our police jury’s entire staff was made up of illegal immigrants.”

UrbanCast Reached Out

In response to the growing number of inquiries, UrbanCast reached out to McGlothlin through a colleague on the Police Jury and then through a publicly listed number with the Louisiana Secretary of State. He was offered an opportunity to comment or appear on the Let’s Talk Show. As of this morning, McGlothlin declined UrbanCast’s request.

The incident has sparked public questions about whether proper hiring protocols were followed and whether the business practices align with the legal responsibilities of someone in his position, particularly as Vice President of the Police Jury, which helps oversee code enforcement and permitting.

Social media response has been swift and polarized, with many demanding audits, accountability, or even resignation.

This is a developing story.
