RUSTON, LA (4/21/25) — Gunfire erupted in the parking lot of Y2 Kuts Barbershop late Sunday night, killing one man and injuring five others in what police believe stemmed from a family dispute.
The Ruston mass shooting occurred around 10:00 p.m. on April 20, 2025, outside the barbershop at 302 South Farmerville Street.
Officers with the Ruston Police Department were already nearby responding to a large crowd when they heard the gunfire. They rushed to the scene and began administering first aid to the victims.
The shooting claimed the life of one Ruston man. Five bystanders suffered superficial injuries. Several injured individuals were transported to the hospital in private vehicles.
Witnesses told police that the violence began with a family argument earlier in the day at Mayfield Park and escalated into a deadly confrontation that night. Investigators believe multiple people involved in the altercation carried handguns.
Ruston Police are actively interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. They urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
“A day meant for family and fun ended in senseless violence,” said an RPD spokesperson.
Police have not announced any arrests. The investigation remains ongoing.
