Arrest Made in Caleb Wilson Hazing Death Case, No Bail Set

BATON ROUGE, La. (3/6/2025) — Baton Rouge Police have made an arrest in the Caleb Wilson hazing death case, now classified as an “alleged act of hazing.” Authorities confirmed that 23-year-old Caleb McCray surrendered to homicide detectives on March 6, 2025.

McCray faces charges of manslaughter and criminal hazing. According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, no bail amount has been set for his charges. Under Louisiana law, manslaughter (RS 14:31) carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prisonCriminal hazing (RS 14:40.8.A(2)(b)), when resulting in death, is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Officers booked McCray into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday evening. Investigators believe the incident occurred at a warehouse off Greenwell Springs Road.

Last week, BRPD executed a search warrant at the warehouse. The property is leased by a member of Omega Psi Phi, the fraternity Wilson was allegedly pledging. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.

Wilson, a 20-year-old Southern University student, was taken to a local hospital around 3 a.m. on February 27. Friends transported him there after he became unresponsive. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at 3:15 a.m.

Southern University launched its own internal investigation into Wilson’s death. The university described it as an “unfortunate and unnecessary loss of life” in a press release issued on March 4. Officials emphasized that hazing violates both school policy and Louisiana law.

Wilson, a junior from Kenner, Louisiana, majored in mechanical engineering and performed in the Human Jukebox marching band. His death has deeply affected the university and surrounding communities.

Temporary Ban on Membership

In response, Southern University implemented a temporary ban on membership intake for all student organizations. The restriction will remain in effect until further notice.

Authorities completed an autopsy, but toxicology results remain pending. The final cause and manner of death could take several weeks to determine.

As the case develops, many are demanding accountability and stricter anti-hazing measures. University officials pledged full cooperation with law enforcement.

We at UrbanCast and InvolvedInItAll.com extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Caleb Wilson. His loss is felt throughout Southern University, the Human Jukebox, and the Kenner community.

At this time no photo is available for McCray.
