Alexandria Senior High Lockdown Lifted After Routine Canine Sweep

Alexandria, LA (September 5, 2024) — Alexandria Senior High was placed on a soft lockdown this morning during a routine, random canine sweep conducted by local law enforcement. The measure was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff while the sweep was underway.

The lockdown has since been lifted, and students are transitioning and moving around campus as normal, according to school officials.

Due to the nature of the sweep, parents and the public were not notified ahead of time.

However, some parents contacted UrbanCast/InvolvedInItAll.com to express support for the unannounced sweeps but voiced concerns about the lack of communication during the event. They suggested Rapides Parish Schools implement a way to inform parents that law enforcement presence is part of a drill or routine sweep once it begins.

Rapides Parish Schools issued a statement thanking the community for their understanding and cooperation.
