WALKER, LA (7/19/2024) – A Denham Springs Police officer was struck by a vehicle on I-12 West in Walker, according to officials.
The incident occurred when the officer, who was on foot, attempted to make contact with a person also on foot on I-12 East near mile marker 14, situated between Juban Road and Walker. The individual crossed over the median and ran into the westbound traffic lanes, with the officer in pursuit. During this chase, the officer was struck by a vehicle.
In response to the incident, traffic on I-12 was halted to allow a medical helicopter to land and transport the injured officer to a hospital. The condition of the officer remains unknown at this time. Additionally, several other individuals were transported to local hospitals by ambulance, but their conditions are also currently unknown.
No further details regarding the nature of the injuries sustained by either the officer or the other individuals involved have been released.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
