Monroe Man Killed in Winn Parish Crash

Winn Parish, LA (06/16/2024) – On June 15, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal one-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 34. The incident claimed the life of 58-year-old Preston E. McCarvill of Monroe.

According to the initial investigation, McCarvill was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition eastbound on Louisiana Highway 34 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway.

The SUV traveled down a ditch embankment and collided with several trees. McCarvill, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.

While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Louisiana State Police highlighted that distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of accidents in the state. Motorists are urged to stay vigilant and aware while driving, as even a brief lapse in attention can lead to deadly consequences.

In 2024, Troop E has investigated 30 fatal crashes resulting in 32 fatalities.
