Many, LA (March 6, 2024) — Sabine Parish was shaken to its core on March 5, 2024, as news spread of a devastating two-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of two beloved teenagers: 17-year-old Sylvonte Aldredge and 17-year-old Elijah Cundiff, both from Many.
The incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 6 at Sid Faust Road. According to Louisiana State Police Troop E, the crash involved a 2010 Hyundai Sonata driven by 20-year-old I’Moni Cundiff of Many, and a 2011 Honda Odyssey. Preliminary investigations suggest that I’Moni Cundiff attempted to overtake another vehicle while traveling eastbound but failed to yield to oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with the westbound Honda.
With heavy hearts, the MHS family mourns the loss of our very own, Sylvonte Aldredge and Elijah Cundiff. Both young men will be remembered for the smiles they shared and the love they had for their friends.

Tragically, Sylvonte Aldredge and Elijah Cundiff, who were unrestrained passengers in the Hyundai, succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. I’Moni Cundiff and two other juvenile passengers sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Honda, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.
The devastating loss of Sylvonte and Elijah has left the community reeling, but amidst the grief, there has been an outpouring of support and solidarity. Many High School, along with other local institutions such as Zwolle Police Department, Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Negreet High School, have announced plans to honor the memory of the two young men by wearing red on Friday, March 8th.
Tasty Treats On The Bend, a local establishment, has also joined the initiative, emphasizing the unity and strength of the community during this difficult time.
Reflecting on their impact, teachers at Many High School shared heartfelt tributes to Sylvonte and Elijah, recalling their kindness, humor, and unique qualities that endeared them to all who knew them. Their presence will be deeply missed, but their memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
These two young men were a joy to teach. Elijah was quiet most of the time but spoke with kindness and respect. There was a gentleness to him that was special. Bug was such a charismatic kid full of wit and humor. He kept everyone with a smile on their face. They were great kids who were loved by all of us at MHS and will be greatly missed. Louisiana State Police Troop E has investigated nine fatal crashes resulting in 11 deaths in 2024 alone, underscoring the critical need for vigilance and adherence to safety measures, such as wearing seat belts.
