Pollock Woman Killed in Grant Parish Crash

Grant Parish, LA (3/2/2024) – A tragic accident on March 1, 2024, has claimed the life of a Pollock woman. Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a scene at approximately 7:40 am where a two-vehicle collision occurred on U.S. Highway 167 at Louisiana Highway 1241. The collision resulted in the loss of 33-year-old Kari Butts’ life.

Initial investigations revealed that Butts, behind the wheel of a 2020 Toyota Camry, was maneuvering to turn at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 1241 and U.S. Highway 167. However, for reasons still under investigation, Butts inadvertently entered U.S. Highway 167 without yielding to a southbound 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The Jeep collided with Butts’ vehicle.

Butts, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, the occupants of the Jeep, who were properly restrained, escaped unharmed. Routine toxicology samples were collected and are pending analysis.

While authorities work to determine the exact cause of the crash, distracted and inattentive driving remains a significant concern. Louisiana State Police implores all drivers to remain vigilant behind the wheel, emphasizing that a momentary lapse in concentration can lead to devastating outcomes.

The importance of seat belt usage cannot be overstated. Even though not all accidents are survivable, wearing seat belts drastically improves the chances of surviving a crash and mitigating injuries. Ensuring that all vehicle occupants are securely restrained can make a crucial difference in life-threatening situations.

In 2024 alone, Troop E Troopers have responded to six fatal crashes, resulting in seven tragic fatalities. As investigations into this incident continue, authorities urge the public to prioritize safety and mindfulness while traveling on Louisiana’s roadways.
