Alexandria, LA (2/10/2024) – The City of Alexandria finds itself struggling with a disturbing trend of violent crimes, prompting a visible increase in police presence throughout the community. Saturday, February 10th, saw law enforcement officers deployed across various neighborhoods in response to a string of recent incidents that have left residents on edge.
On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, Alexandria was rocked by multiple shootings in different parts of the city. Shots rang out on Noel Street, Douglas Street, the intersection of Orchard and Florence Avenue, and the intersection of Monroe and Kent Streets, sending shockwaves through the community. The escalation of violence has raised serious concerns among residents and law enforcement alike.
Adding to the mounting worries is the escape of an inmate from the Rapides Parish Detention Center, #3. Devacheay Tray Martin, who fled custody on February 9, 2024, is a suspect in a recent shooting incident on Magnolia Street, according to the Alexandria Police Department. The escape has further heightened tensions and underscored the challenges faced by local authorities in combating crime.
Residents have voiced frustration over what they perceive as a lack of communication and transparency from city officials, including the mayor’s office and city council. Concerned citizens point to the frequency of violent crimes and express dismay at the apparent shortage of police officers.
Despite their concerns, residents acknowledge and appreciate the dedication and hard work of the current officers in maintaining public safety.
