Converse Juvenile Killed in Sabine Parish Crash

Sabine Parish, LA (2/7/2024) – According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP) a Converse juvenile was killed in Sabine Parish crash.

On February 7, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., when LSP Troop E responded to a devastating two-vehicle collision on Louisiana Highway 191 near the Union Springs community. The collision claimed the life of a 14-year-old juvenile, sending shockwaves through the community.

Initial investigations unveiled that a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 33-year-old Henry Ezernack of Noble, was traveling northbound on Louisiana Highway 191. In circumstances still under scrutiny, the Jeep veered across the centerlines into the southbound travel lane, resulting in a catastrophic head-on collision with a 2005 Dodge Ram.

Ezernack, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The 16-year-old juvenile driver of the Dodge, also unrestrained, suffered moderate injuries and was likewise taken to a nearby medical facility. The 14-year-old juvenile passenger in the Dodge, who was not restrained, succumbed to fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash. While the exact cause remains under scrutiny, authorities emphasized the persistent threat of distracted and inattentive driving, which continues to be a leading cause of accidents in the state. LSP urged all motorists to remain vigilant behind the wheel, emphasizing that a momentary lapse in attention can have irreversible consequences.

Highlighting the importance of seatbelt usage, authorities stressed that while not all accidents are survivable, proper restraint significantly enhances an occupant’s chances of survival and minimizes the severity of injuries. They underscored that ensuring every occupant is properly restrained could often be the critical difference between life and death.

In 2024 alone, Troop E Troopers have been called to investigate four fatal crashes, resulting in four tragic fatalities.
