Boyce, LA (2/7/2024) – In a contentious decision, the Town of Boyce has voted to eliminate its police department, sparking concerns among residents about public safety and law enforcement response.
Multiple sources have confirmed to UrbanCast that in a vote of 3 to 2, all police officers with the Town of Boyce were released immediately. However, Chief of Police Ronald L. Goudeau will remain in his position.
Those voting to eliminate the police department were Lucretia “Bonnie” McCoy, Donna Gail Lofton, and Peggy Brew, while Leslie “Bobe” Aaron and Mary Ann Fisher voted against the measure.
Residents of Boyce have expressed apprehension about the implications of this decision, particularly regarding the potential increase in crime and the availability of law enforcement services.
Responding to these concerns, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office (RPSO) issued a press release today, stating that Mayor Kelvin McCoy and the Town Council for the Town of Boyce have requested law enforcement assistance. The RPSO will begin aiding the Town of Boyce with law enforcement duties starting today at 1200 hours. The Sheriff’s Office has directed all further inquiries to Mayor Kelvin McCoy.
Despite the pressing questions surrounding this decision, officials from the Town of Boyce were unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.
