Slidell, LA (12/28/2023) – The Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported a wrong way driver was killed in St. Tammany Parish crash.
Wednesday, December 27, 2023, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Troopers from LSP Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near the Mississippi state line in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 46-year-old Gary Clark Jr. of Abita Springs.
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Clark Jr. was westbound in the left lane of I-10 east in a 2019 Ram 1500. At the same time, a 2014 Volvo VNL was eastbound in the left lane of Interstate 10 east. For reasons still under investigation, the Ram impacted the Volvo head-on.
At this time, Clark Jr.’s restraint use is unknown. Clark Jr. sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Volvo was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
