Shreveport:  Investigation into the 6th Mass shooting in Shreveport in 2023 continues

Shreveport, LA (7/7/2023) – Shreveport Police Department (SPD) continues investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting deaths of three adults and one juvenile and injuries of seven others during an Independence Day celebration in north Shreveport.

On July 4, 2023, at 11:40 p.m., SPD Patrol Officers responded to the 2500 block of Jones Mabry and the 2000 block of Pearl Street about a shooting. Arriving officers were barraged by crowds of frightened people fleeing from the intersection, asking officers for help as multiple people were shot at that location. Police officers and Shreveport Fire medics made their way through the large crowd and began locating the injured and getting them to ambulances for transport to the hospital.

Two men were pronounced deceased on the scene, and at least four other victims were transported to Ochsner LSU Health to be treated for gunshot injuries. One man died shortly after arriving at the hospital, and another remains in critical condition. The others had non-life-threatening injuries. Many others were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries, all related to the incident.

Officers secured the crime scene, and the Violent Crimes Unit detectives were summoned. Detectives attempted to locate witnesses and video while Crime Scene Investigators combed the scene for evidence. The area had dense vegetation making efforts to recover evidence very difficult in the dark. CSIU and investigators worked through the night and into the morning hours, and a fourth person was deceased in the area just before 9:30 a.m.

The decedents are 22-year-old Moriz Aziz, 19-year-old Jarike Dorsey, 24-year-old Demorie Williams, and 17-year-old Syncere Brown.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between two groups of men and believe multiple people were firing shots. Handgun and rifle casings were located throughout the area. The motive has not yet been determined. Eleven citizens sustained injuries or were killed during the incident.

Investigators are asking everyone with information about this incident to come forward. Information can be given directly to investigators by calling 318-673-6955.

Information can be submitted anonymously through Caddo Shreveport Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373 or via their app, P3Tips. Crime Stoppers is an anonymous tip service that pays tipsters cash for information. It is entirely anonymous.
