Winter Weather Stalls Traffic Along Interstate 20 in Louisiana

Pineville, La. (1/26/2026) – A recent winter weather event severely impacted multiple locations along Interstate 20 in Louisiana. As conditions deteriorated, numerous commercial motor vehicles became stalled in travel lanes.

As a result, traffic came to a complete standstill in several areas. Motorists encountered extended delays as disabled vehicles blocked portions of the interstate.

Earlier this morning, Louisiana State Police Troopers escorted heavy-duty wreckers from Pineville to affected I-20 locations. Meanwhile, the Louisiana National Guard accompanied the convoy to support recovery operations.

Upon arrival, National Guard personnel began assisting other Guardsmen already positioned along the corridor. Together, crews worked to remove disabled commercial vehicles obstructing the roadway.

However, roadway conditions remain hazardous despite ongoing efforts. Clearing operations continue, and drivers should expect additional delays throughout the impacted areas.

Because of the dangerous conditions, officials strongly urge motorists to avoid unnecessary travel. Drivers should also remain alert for emergency vehicles and personnel working along the interstate.

Meanwhile, officials encouraged the public to stay informed about changing conditions. Motorists can access the latest road updates through the Louisiana 511 system.

Drivers may dial 511, visit 511la.org, or use the Louisiana 511 mobile app. These tools provide real-time information as crews continue restoring safe travel conditions.
