Ville Platte: 85-year-old grandmother dies after a beating from granddaughter; current bond is set to $1,067,500

Evangeline Parish, LA (4/10/2023) – The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) reported an 85-year-old woman has died after a suspected beating by her granddaughter.

A spokesperson for EPSO said the current charges are being reviewed and will likely be upgraded.

Original Press Release

On April 4, 2023, Deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 500 Blk. of Wyble Rd. Ville Platte, La., about an elderly 85-year-old W/F victim suffering from multiple injuries. During the investigation, Detectives learned that foul play was the cause of the injuries.

Upon further investigation, Detectives learned that the victim’s granddaughter (Cecilia Ann Lee) was visiting her grandmother/victim at her residence on the evening of April 4, 2023. During that time, she and her grandmother were involved in a physical altercation.

During the altercation, the suspect struck the victim multiple times in her head, torso, arms, and hands with a heavy-duty wooden back scratcher and picture frame. The suspect then vandalized the residence and damaged the victim’s phone to keep her from contacting first responders. The suspect later fell asleep on a couch inside the victim’s residence.

Once Deputies and paramedics arrived to treat the victim for her injuries, the suspect was taken into police custody. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in ICU in critical but stable condition. The suspect was arrested and charged with one count of Attempted First Degree Murder, one count of Aggravated Second Degree Battery of the Infirm, one count of Cruelty to the Infirm, one count of False Imprisonment, and Criminal Damage to Property. She is currently being held with a $1,067,500.00 bond. The investigation is still ongoing.
