LORMAN, Miss. (10/12/2025) — A Vicksburg native, 29-year-old Brekyra Fisher, was killed in a shooting on the campus of Alcorn State University Saturday evening, according to the Claiborne County Coroner Kieon Neal. Two other individuals were also injured.
Shooting Near Industrial Technology Building
The shooting occurred near the Industrial Technology Building and Jack’s Grocery Store on campus at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025. When law enforcement arrived, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Fisher was later pronounced dead at the scene, and her family has been notified.
Campus Alert Issued to Students and Faculty
Shortly after the shooting, Alcorn State University officials issued an emergency alert to students and faculty warning of an active situation.
The university’s message read:
“A shooting has been reported on campus. If you are on campus, seek shelter immediately. Do not leave your secure location until given an all clear by Campus Police.”
The alert was lifted after authorities secured the area, though a heavy law enforcement presence remained into the night.
State Investigators Lead the Case
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is now leading the investigation. Officials confirmed the incident took place around 6:30 p.m. and that no arrests have been made at this time.
MBI said investigators are still gathering evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses. The agency added that the details remain preliminary and could change as the investigation develops.
