Update: Hit-and-Run Tragedy Claims Life in Pollock

Pollock, LA (5/6/2024) – A devastating hit-and-run incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 4th, at approximately 3:18 a.m., resulting in the loss of life of a Jena man. The Pollock Police Department responded to the crash, which took place at the intersection of La.8 east and US 165.

The identity of the deceased victim has not been disclosed by authorities at this time.

Preliminary investigations unveiled that the crash was indeed a hit-and-run, with the perpetrator fleeing the scene southbound onto US 165 in a black jeep. However, crucial evidence emerged during the investigation as a license plate was discovered at the scene. Upon tracing it through the system, authorities confirmed it to be linked to a rental vehicle.

Collaborating with the Pineville Police Department and the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Department, law enforcement successfully apprehended a suspect at a Pineville residence around 7:45 a.m. However, the name of the suspected hit-and-run driver has not been released.

During the investigation at the Pineville residence, a black jeep was located with substantial damage to its front end, matching the description of the vehicle involved in the tragic incident.

The suspect was transported by Pollock Police and subsequently booked into the Grant Parish Detention Center at 9:45 a.m. Charges have been filed, including Vehicular Homicide and Hit and Run, as specified by sections 14:32.1 and 14:00 of the law, respectively.

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and pending routine toxicology reports, authorities have refrained from disclosing further information at this time. It is noted that the official spokesman for the Pollock Police Department was unavailable for comment during the drafting of this article.
