Unauthorized drone activity at Barksdale Air Force Base raises national security concerns

Bossier City, La. (2/22/2026) — Barksdale Air Force Base drones have raised serious national security concerns after multiple unauthorized aircraft entered restricted airspace earlier this month. Reports now show the situation was far more extensive than initially disclosed.

Initially, officials reported a single drone sighting on March 9. Personnel were ordered to shelter in place while security forces responded. The lockdown was lifted later that day.

However, new details reveal a coordinated operation. Internal briefings show the drones operated in multiple waves over several days. These aircraft repeatedly entered sensitive areas, including the flight line.

Between March 9 and March 15, security teams observed groups of 12 to 15 drones at a time. Each wave lasted several hours and followed deliberate flight paths. Investigators believe the operators attempted to avoid detection.

Additionally, analysts noted the drones displayed advanced capabilities. Reports state the aircraft resisted jamming efforts and used long-range control systems. Experts say these were not typical consumer drones.

Barksdale’s strategic role increases the severity of the breach. The base houses nuclear-capable B-52 bombers and supports Global Strike Command operations. Therefore, any unauthorized surveillance presents a significant threat.

Officials also believe the drone activity may have tested base security responses. Lights on the drones and coordinated maneuvers suggest deliberate probing of defense systems.

Meanwhile, federal, state, and military agencies have launched a joint investigation. Authorities are analyzing signal data and flight patterns to identify those responsible. No suspects have been publicly named.

Officials emphasized that flying drones over military installations is a federal crime. Violators can face significant fines and prison time. Authorities continue to monitor the airspace closely.

Experts warn the incursions may continue in the near term. As a result, the situation remains under close review. The repeated drone activity highlights growing concerns about surveillance threats and national defense vulnerabilities.
