Vivian, LA (12/30/2022) – According to Sheriff Steve Prater, two teen males and an adult male were arrested Friday morning. The arrest was in connection with a homicide that took place on North Cypress Street in Vivian.
On Thursday, December 29, at 11:56 a.m., Caddo Sheriff’s Patrol deputies responded to a home in the 600 block of W. Atlanta Ave., in reference to a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Ochsner’s emergency room in Shreveport, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Caddo Sheriff’s detectives, two separate groups of juveniles were involved in an altercation on N. Cypress St. There was an exchange of gunfire of approximately twenty rounds between the two groups. Leaving one juvenile with a fatal gunshot wound. Marty Whatley, 20, was also involved in the altercation.
After an investigation by Caddo Parish detectives, an arrest warrant was obtained for a 17-year-old. He was charged with second degree murder, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and obstruction of justice. Additionally, a 16-year-old was charged with illegal use of weapons and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile. They were booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
Whatley, who fled the scene was later taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force. He was later charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, obstruction of justice, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery, and an outstanding warrant for a Caddo Parish probation violation. He was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
