Two teenagers killed, one injured in a high-speed chase, suspect arrested; police say

Baton Rouge, LA (12/31/2022) – According to the Addis Police Department, two teenage girls were killed, and a third person was injured in a crash involving a high-speed chase.

Maggie Dunn, 17, and Caroline Gill, 16, were killed when a police cruiser reportedly crashed into their vehicle. The male in the back seat was injured and transported to a local hospital.

Witnesses said the crash occurred when the suspect’s vehicle turned to head back into East Baton Rouge. Witnesses said the Addis police cruiser ran a red light and t-boned the vehicle the young ladies were riding in.

According to Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), the chase started in Baton Rouge after officers learned the suspect had broken into a relative’s home and stolen a vehicle. BRPD pursued the stolen vehicle into West Baton Rouge and Iberville Parishes. The stolen vehicle turned and headed northbound on LA 1, then back onto I-10 East, over the bridge.

The suspect was eventually stopped in Baton Rouge on I-10 near the Dalrymple Exit.

Tyquel Zanders, 24, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, and home invasion in Baton Rouge, and two counts of manslaughter in West Baton Rouge. Zanders remain in the East Baton Rouge jail.

Multiple policing agencies were involved in this incident. No further information is known at this time.
