Avoyelles Parish, LA (October 20, 2024) – Two separate crashes in Avoyelles Parish left two people dead on October 19, 2024. Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the incidents, both of which occurred on Louisiana Highway 107.
First Crash
The first crash, around 6:30 p.m. near Center Point, involved a 1998 Dodge pickup driven by 62-year-old Harold P. Gaspard of Marksville. Gaspard’s truck veered into the northbound lane, colliding head-on with a 2007 Chevrolet. Despite wearing his seatbelt, Gaspard sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Chevrolet’s driver suffered only minor injuries. Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash. Distracted driving remains a leading factor in many accidents, and police urge drivers to stay alert.
Second Crash
Later that evening, around 10:20 p.m., a second crash occurred on Louisiana Highway 107 near Pinks Lane. A 2006 Nissan, driven by 37-year-old Terrence Hawkins, left the roadway and overturned. Hawkins, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The crash is under investigation, and toxicology samples were collected for analysis.
State Police continue to emphasize the importance of seatbelt use. While not all accidents are preventable, wearing a seatbelt can significantly increase the chances of survival.
Both crashes remain under investigation as authorities work to determine the specific causes.
