Two inmates escaped a detention center in Marksville

Marksville, LA (10/23/2023) – The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) reported two inmates escaped from Detention Center #1.

On the morning of October 23, 2023, the Avoyelles 911 Communication Center received a report from DC-1 Corrections Staff of the escape of two offenders from the Jail facility in Marksville, LA. The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana Department of Corrections / Raymond Laborde Correctional Center (RLCC) Chase Team and other local police agencies have responded to assist in locating the escapees. APSO and the LA Dept. of Corrections have tracking K9s on the ground in search of the escapees. The investigation and search are ongoing. The two escapees are as follows:

1) 25-year-old Desmond Harmon of Kinder, LA
2) 20-year-old Edgar Spikes of Deridder, LA

The preliminary investigation revealed they managed to break a small hole into the ceiling of a cell to access the attic. Subjects are possibly in the Bunkie, LA area.

Sheriff David L. Dauzat would like to ask anyone with information or observing suspicious activity in the area to report it immediately to APSO by calling 318-253-4000 or 911 for an emergency. He also advises people in the area to take the extra precautions of locking their vehicles and homes.
