Baton Rouge, La. (10/12/2025) – The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred near Highland Road and Dalrymple Drive, close to the north gate of the LSU campus, on the evening of Saturday, October 11.
According to police, two people were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries following the incident. Investigators believe that one of the victims was the intended target of the gunfire.
Campus Alert Issued to Students and Faculty
Shortly after the shooting, LSU officials issued a campus-wide alert urging students, staff, and faculty to avoid the areawhile officers secured the scene. The alert was lifted later in the evening after the immediate threat was contained.
Authorities stressed that the shooting was connected to a separate event occurring on or near campus grounds, but was not related to any official university activities.
Two Detained, Multiple Firearms Recovered
BRPD confirmed that two people were detained as part of the ongoing investigation. Officers also confiscated multiple guns from the scene.
Detectives are working to determine the full circumstances leading to the shooting, including whether the suspects and victims knew each other and what may have sparked the confrontation.
Investigation Ongoing
As of Sunday, the investigation remains active. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and interviewing witnesses.
