Alexandria, La. (1/31/2026) — Two inmates who escaped the River Bend Detention Center in East Carroll Parish are now back in custody. RPSO booking reports and a Louisiana State Police news release confirm the captures occurred in Alexandria.
Louisiana State Police identified the captured inmates as Kevin Slaughter Jr., 25 of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Kolin Loney, 21 of Scott, Louisiana. Investigators said both men were among eight inmates who escaped during the early morning hours of January 30, 2026.
Troopers reported the inmates were discovered missing at about 1:20 a.m. Deputies and partner agencies immediately launched a regional search. As a result, authorities warned the public not to approach any fugitives.
Louisiana State Police confirmed the arrests happened during a CREST mission. The operation included assistance from the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office and the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office. It also included the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Alexandria Police Department.
Additionally, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries assisted in the mission. Louisiana Probation and Parole also supported the operation. Federal partners included the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI.
State police said all fugitives connected to the escape were considered violent offenders. Therefore, officials urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activity immediately.
Louisiana State Police later confirmed every inmate connected to the escape was captured. Officials said the final apprehensions were completed through continued coordinated operations across the region.
The following inmates were listed by Louisiana State Police as located and in custody after the escape:
Savion Wheeler, 31, captured and in custody. Hugo Molina, 27, captured and in custody. Trenton Taplin, 29, captured and in custody. Kolin Loney, 21, captured and in custody. Kevin Slaughter Jr., 25, captured and in custody. Destin Brogan, 22, captured and in custody. Krisean Salinas, 21, captured and in custody. Kopelon Vicknair, 19, captured and in custody.
The East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office asked Louisiana State Police detectives with the Monroe Field Office to assume the lead role in locating and apprehending the escapees. Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office said it will remain the lead agency investigating how the escape happened.
Sheriff Wydette Williams said deputies worked around the clock while multiple agencies joined the search. He also urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activity immediately. He said extra resources were dedicated to the River Bend Detention Center while investigators continued responding to the incident.
Louisiana State Police also highlighted the role of the CREST team in the operation. The agency said CREST provides rapid-response support for critical missing person cases, including endangered children and vulnerable adults. The team uses regional expertise, investigative resources, and advanced technology to strengthen statewide response efforts.
