Flatwoods, LA (1/19/2024) – It is with deep sadness that we report the unfortunate discovery of missing person Justin Bates, found deceased on Tuesday within a heavily wooded area approximately 3/4 of a mile from his residence in the Flatwoods Community. The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office (RPSO) expressed its sincere condolences to the Bates family during this difficult time.
The circumstances surrounding Justin’s disappearance and subsequent passing indicate that he became lost and, unfortunately, succumbed to the severe cold weather. According to RPSO the entire community had been actively involved in the search efforts, with civilians, the Alexandria Police Department, and the Alexandria Fire Department Search and Rescue Team providing valuable assistance.
RPSO extends gratitude to everyone who contributed to the search, highlighting the collaborative effort in attempting to locate Justin. Despite the tragic outcome, the community’s support and cooperation have been instrumental during this challenging period.
At the family’s request, the Sheriff’s Office takes this opportunity to remind the public about the importance of monitoring weather conditions and forecasts when engaging in outdoor activities. Additionally, ensuring that all equipment is charged and in proper functioning condition is crucial for safety.
