Union Parish, La. (12/9/2025) – A student brings cocaine to school, triggering an investigation by the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office.
School staff discovered a bottle containing suspected crack cocaine on Monday, December 8, 2025, and immediately notified the School Resource Officer. The SRO responded and worked with school personnel to protect students and gather facts.
Deputies learned that two children handled the bottle before turning it in. They interviewed both juveniles, who explained who owned the substance. Their information also suggested that additional narcotics might be located at two homes in Marion.
Deputies sought warrants based on the statements. They then executed the warrants and seized a large quantity of illegal drugs. The items included nearly 900 suspected Ecstasy pills, more than 30 suspected crack rocks, cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, and packaging tools used for distribution.
Investigators identified Japrinceton Jermaine Island, 30, of Marion, as the suspect. Deputies arrested Island and booked him into the Union Parish Detention Center. He now faces several felony charges, including Distribution of Schedule II Narcotics and multiple counts of possession with intent to distribute.
The additional charges include Cruelty to a Juvenile, Illegal Use of Controlled Dangerous Substances in the Presence of a Minor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. A Third District judge set Island’s bond at 160,000 dollars. He also remains held on a probation detainer.
The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation as school officials review safety measures. Authorities repeat that community awareness remains vital when a student brings cocaine to school.
