Grand Coteau Police Chief arrested by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office

Grand Coteau, LA (7/14/2023) – According to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office (SLPSO), Grand Coteau Police Chief was Arrested.

Jeffery Guilbeau, 49, was charged with the distribution of marijuana, misdemeanor theft, obstruction of justice, and malfeasance in office.

According to Sheriff Guidroz, deputies received information from St. Landry Crime Stoppers and a confidential source that a female identified as Heather Landry would frequent a residence and be involved in using and distributing illegal narcotics with Chief of Police Jeffery Guilbeau. Information was received from other confidential and anonymous sources.

Narcotics Detectives established surveillance of the residence to verify the alleged illegal drug activity concerns. During the undercover surveillance, officers observed Chief of Police Jeffery Guilbeau arrive at the residence in a marked Grand Coteau Police unit.

Narcotics Detectives decided to expedite the investigation and chose to conduct a ‘knock and talk’ at the residence. Heather Landry and Police Chief Guilbeau were detained at the residence and agreed to talk to officers.

Officers identified themselves to Heather Landry and Guilbeau and advised them of their Miranda Rights.

At this point, Landry began cooperating with officers and wanted to talk to officers regarding her and Chief of Police Jeffery Guilbeau’s involvement in illegal drug and criminal activity.

Chief Guilbeau was interviewed away from Heather Landry and was told he was being detained regarding complaints of illegal drug activity. Shortly after that, Guilbeau was transferred to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department for interrogation.

Upon arriving at the Sheriff’ Complex, Chief Guilbeau was advised of his constitutional rights and agreed to talk to officers. At this point, Guilbeau was confronted with the information officers had regarding the charges mentioned above, and he decided to give officers information confirming his illegal actions and activities.

Shortly after midnight, Jeffery Guilbeau was booked and jailed on the charges above.

This investigation continues, and more charges may be filed against other individuals involved in this case.
