St. John Parish Deputy Tragically Killed by His Brother in Jefferson Parish

Waggaman, La. (11/28/2025) – The Jefferson Parish Coroner identified Deputy Shaquille Guerin as the man shot and killed Thanksgiving night in Waggaman. The fatal shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 30 block of Marigold Lane.

Deputies arrived and found Guerin lying in the street in front of a home. He was off duty at the time. They said he had been shot at least once and died at the scene.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the suspect is the victim’s brother, 32-year-old Darius Guerin. Deputies spotted his vehicle around 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Ames and Lapalco Boulevards, prompting a chase.

As the pursuit continued, deputies followed the suspect into Lafitte. The chase ended in the 100 block of Jean Lafitte Boulevard, where the suspect ran from the vehicle. Deputies captured him after a brief foot pursuit and recovered a firearm along his escape path. Investigators questioned him and then booked him with second-degree murder.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office released a statement following the tragedy. Deputy Guerin served the department for eight years and 65 days. He worked in the uniform patrol division and had prior experience in the detective bureau.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said Guerin performed his duties with commitment and heart. He described Guerin as a positive force within the department and a teammate who supported his coworkers.

Deputy Guerin is survived by his wife, Roxanne, and their three children.

Officials ask the community to keep the Guerin family in their thoughts and prayers as the investigation continues.
