Alexandria, LA (5/2/2023) – Southeast Alexandria residents complain about major water problems at the Acadian Village Neighborhood Group Meeting. Multiple neighbors said the problems have been going on for years.
According to the State’s Final 2022 Community Public Water System Report released on Monday, May 1, 2023, the City of Alexandria Water System received a grade of A.
On Monday, May 1, 2023, Acadian Village Neighborhood Group members voiced significant concerns with city, parish, and state officials regarding water quality and safety in their community.
Many neighbors at the Monday night meeting said working around the water problem costs them time and extra money.
One neighbor said, “I live in Acadian Village; the water is bad, the water is unsafe to wash, and it is certainly unsafe to consume.”
“The city could at least notify the citizens; everywhere else outside of Alexandria, you see a boil advisory; I have not seen a boil advisory since we’ve been complaining of recent water problems. – Rev. Randy Harris, Mount Triumph Baptist Church
“We used to get notifications from the previous administration, but we don’t anymore” – Councilwoman Cynthia Perry, District #3
“One lady told me when she took a shower, she felt a burning sensation; look at this water y’all” – Willard “Bubba” McCall.
We reached out to Acadian Village’s Neighborhood Group President; he said he met with Michael Marcotte, Director of Utility for the City of Alexandria. Marcotte believed the problem was due to sediment from a recent water problem in the area of Applewhite Street.
