Shreveport, LA (4/24/2023) – According to the Caddo Parish Coroner, Joseph Dewayne Taylor, 33, of Wagner Avenue, was killed during a traffic stop by officers near Mansfield Road and Valley View Drive in southwest Shreveport.
The shooting occurred at 9:31 pm. Mr. Taylor was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, where he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at 9:57 pm.
Protestors gathered on Monday, April 24, 2023, after a video of the traffic stop surfaced on social media, demanding accountability of the Shreveport Police Department.
Shreveport Mayor Arceneaux released a message regarding the officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a man on Sunday, April 24, 2023.
Mayor Arceneaux’s statement:
“I was briefed this morning regarding the officer involved shooting that occurred Sunday evening. This incident resulted in the death of a citizen, Joseph Dewayne Taylor.

In line with this Administration’s commitment to transparency and the agreement between the Shreveport Police Department and the Louisiana State Police, SPD immediately notified LSP of the incident, and LP took over the investigation of it.
Any event that results in a fatal shooting by a police officer is a serious and sensitive matter. The family of Mr. Taylor, the officers involved, and our entire community deserve a meticulous investigation. The City and SPD will cooperate fully with LP in their review of this matter.
LSP has directed that all communications about the incident come to and from LSP. The Mayor’s office will comply with that directive so as not to jeopardize the investigation or its independence.”

This is Caddo Parish’s 24th homicide of the year.
