ALEXANDRIA, LA (May 18, 2025) — Shots fired outside a graduation party in Alexandria late Saturday night have sparked concern and reflection.
According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies working off-duty security responded around 11:45 PM to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of Bolton Avenue. The graduation party had just ended when shots rang out in the church parking lot. Deputies found one vehicle struck by bullets, but no injuries were reported.
Witnesses say at least four deputies were already on-site, ensuring safety during the event. After the shots, deputies rushed outside with guns drawn and quickly took control of the scene. Officers from the Alexandria Police Department also responded.
The event was held at a local church and coordinated by professional in the community. Many of the young graduates in attendance described the evening as peaceful and joyous until the gunfire disrupted it.
Some public comments online have unfairly targeted the youth and the community. UrbanCast urges residents to remember that these were students celebrating a major life milestone. The actions of one or more reckless individuals should not overshadow that.
This is not about blame. This is about all of us. Parents, law enforcement, faith leaders, and neighbors must work together to address the root causes of violence. Community unity is the only path forward.
