Severe Thunderstorms and Tornado Risks in Central Louisiana Today

Severe thunderstorms in Central Louisiana are expected to develop this afternoon and continue into the evening, according to the National Weather Service Lake Charles.

The storms could bring damaging winds, hail, and an increased risk of tornadoes to the region.

The National Weather Service predicts the highest threat of severe weather from 7 PM to 10 PM, particularly in Alexandria and surrounding areas. Earlier in the day, southeast Texas and western Louisiana will experience the strongest storms, which may weaken as they move eastward. However, these systems still pose significant risks as they approach central Louisiana.

Residents should remain vigilant as chances for strong tornadoes will increase late this afternoon, primarily in southeast Texas but with some potential to affect western Louisiana. Severe thunderstorms in Central Louisiana could also bring damaging winds exceeding 58 mph and hail over one inch in diameter.

Preparations should include monitoring updates from trusted sources, such as the National Weather Service Lake Charles. Stay informed through local NOAA Weather Radio or social media updates for any watches or warnings issued.

Conditions are forecasted to stabilize by early Friday morning. Yet, another storm system could bring a slight risk of severe thunderstorms to the region on Saturday.

For your safety, keep emergency plans ready and have multiple ways to receive alerts during this period of heightened weather risk.
