This morning, an upper-level low is located over the TX Panhandle, while a surface low is developing near the south TX coast.
Lift continues to create showers and occasional thunderstorms over the local area ahead of the features. Through today the upper low will move through OK and KS while opening and filling. The surface low will move northeast toward the south LA coast and along the stalled frontal boundary over the coastal waters. The isentropic lift will keep high pops in the forecast through today, with an average of the expected half to two inches of rain, although localized higher amounts are possible.
Locally heavier rain may also lead to water ponding, especially in urban areas. The upper disturbance will push east of the area this evening, with rain chances decreasing through tonight.
A drier and cooler air mass will filter in for Sunday behind a cold front. However, the break will be short-lived. The disturbance moving into the Pacific NW today will affect the area at the beginning of the long-term period.
