Hineston, La. (1/28/2026) – The RPSO high speed pursuit Hineston incident now has an official update from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Harper Road in the Hineston area around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026. When deputies arrived, the suspect saw them and fled in a brown Chevrolet Suburban.
The suspect, later identified as Robert Dale West, 35, led deputies on a lengthy chase through the area. At times, deputies reported speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour. However, the pursuit ended in the Sieper community after RPSO and Louisiana State Police deployed spike strips.
After the vehicle stopped, deputies said the Suburban caught fire. West then ran from the scene on foot. Deputies quickly captured him after a short foot pursuit. Authorities reported no further incident during the arrest.
RPSO said deputies also found West in possession of a stolen firearm. Deputies transported him to the Rapides Parish Detention Center for booking. Officials said he faces multiple charges, including aggravated flight from an officer and possession of a stolen firearm. He also has an active extraditable warrant out of Texas.
No injuries were reported in the incident. RPSO said it will release more information as it becomes available. That update may include final charges and a suspect mugshot.
Earlier in the evening, UrbanCast published an unofficial eyewitness report describing a large pursuit near Twin Bridge Road and Highway 112. Witnesses also reported multiple law enforcement vehicles chasing a Suburban down Boyd Road. Later reports said the chase ended behind Sieper Leebos, where the vehicle stopped and caught fire.
Now, the Sheriff’s Office confirms the pursuit began after deputies responded to a disturbance call. RPSO also thanked Louisiana State Police for assisting in the pursuit and capture.
