Baton Rouge, La. (8/5/2025) – The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has expanded its SNAP produce bonus pilot program, known as the Electronic Healthy Incentives Project (eHIP), to include Walmart stores in Rapides Parish.
The expansion also includes Calcasieu, Jackson, Lafayette, and Terrebonne parishes, joining Ascension, LaSalle, Sabine, Tangipahoa, Webster, and West Carroll already participating in the program.
The initiative rewards SNAP recipients with a 30-cent bonus for every dollar spent on fresh fruits and vegetables at participating retailers. These bonuses are automatically added to recipients’ EBT cards and can be used to purchase any SNAP-eligible grocery items. The maximum benefit is 25 dollars per month.
Since launching in April, the program has returned over 280,000 dollars in bonus benefits to Louisiana SNAP recipients.
Sammy Guillory, Assistant Secretary of Family Support, said the broader goal is to improve health outcomes by making nutritious food more accessible.
“This project helps Louisianans stretch their food budget, but more importantly, it supports healthier families, stronger communities, and a better future for our state,” Guillory said.
