Rapides Parish Coroner Confirms Accidental Drowning at Buhlow Lake

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred on March 30 at Buhlow Lake in Rapides Parish. John A. Rashall, 48, of Ball, fell from a kayak and did not resurface. His body was recovered around 6:10 PM by the Pineville Fire Department. He was wearing a personal flotation device. LDWF is leading the investigation. The cause of the incident is currently unknown.

PINEVILLE, La. (3/31/2025) – The Rapides Parish Coroner confirms drowning at Buhlow Lake that claimed the life of 47-year-old Avery Rashall of Ball, Louisiana.

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Rashall’s kayak overturned while he was boating on the lake.

The Pineville Fire Department Dive Team recovered his body at 6:06 PM.

The Coroner classified the incident as an accidental death. No foul play is suspected at this time.

Officials have confirmed that the family has been notified.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries led the investigation.

The Pineville Police Department, Pineville Fire Department, and an ambulance company assisted at the scene.
