Alexandria, La. (3/8/2026) – Witnesses reported a body was recovered from the Horseshoe Drainage Canal Sunday afternoon near Rose Marie Road in Alexandria.
UrbanCast arrived on scene around 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2026. At that time, the Alexandria Fire Department was wrapping up operations near the canal.
Several witnesses at the scene told UrbanCast responders had just recovered one body from the water. Witnesses said the recovery occurred at the end of Rose Marie and Aguillard Street.
The Horseshoe Drainage Canal starts west Alexandria near the intersection of Horseshoe Drive, Twin Bridges Road, and Jackson Street. From there, the canal crosses several major roadways across the city. These include Prescott Road, Masonic Drive, South MacArthur Drive, Sterkx Road, Lee Street, Interstate 49, Eddie Williams Avenue, and Willow Glen River Road.
The Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed it responded to a fatality on the bank of the Horseshoe Drainage Canal. The location was closest to the end of Aguillard Street in Alexandria.
Officials said the cause and manner of death have not been determined. Identification and an autopsy are currently pending.
