RAPIDES PARISH, La. (3/28/2025) – Plainview High School has been named the first-place winner in the inaugural Destination Zero Deaths contest, sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD).
The school achieved 100% student participation, the highest in the state, with every student pledging to buckle up and put the phone down while driving!
As the top-performing school in Louisiana, Plainview High School received a $5,000 award, which can be used to support the school’s media program that has produced PSAs and other videos, or the money can fund other transportation safety initiatives.
The school’s media teacher, Dustin Howard, played a key role in the campaign.
The videos that his media team have created are being used statewide on social media and in presentations to encourage safer driving habits.
Destiny Kunefke, Destination Zero Deaths Coordinator for the Central Region, praised the school’s efforts, stating, “There were nine schools across the state, and Plainview earned 100% participation.”
Plainview High School’s dedication to promoting traffic safety has set a high standard, demonstrating the power of student involvement in making a positive impact on their community.
