Pineville Animal Control Truck Incident: Employee Terminated, Interim Supervisor Appointed

Pineville, LA (8/7/2024) – Mayor Rich Dupree of Pineville provided an update on the recent Pineville Animal Control truck incident, stating that the investigation is now closed.

The incident gained significant attention after a video showing a dog in a kennel in the bed of a Pineville Animal Control truck parked at Alexandria Mall went viral, amassing over 300 shares and 67.8K plays.

“There was no abuse or intent to abuse the puppy,” Mayor Dupree explained. “The dog was already sick and was being transported back to Pineville from a foster home in Alexandria. Unfortunately, some decisions made during transportation were not the best.”

Mayor Dupree announced that one employee involved in the incident has been terminated, while another has been reprimanded. “The Supervisor involved is no longer employed by the City of Pineville, and a second employee has also faced disciplinary action,” he said.

To ensure better management moving forward, Henry Wimberly has been appointed as the Interim Animal Control Supervisor. “Wimberly has over 30 years of experience as Superintendent of Animal Control for Alexandria and 26 years as a deputy with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office,” noted Mayor Dupree.

The 8-pound mixed breed puppy featured in the video tested negative for parvo and is now healthy. “I am pleased to report that the puppy was adopted Wednesday, August 7th from Pineville Animal Control,” Mayor Dupree said.

If you are interested in adopting a pet, the facility is located at 1967 Monroe Highway, just past the US Highway 71/165 split.

Mayor Dupree concluded, “This resolution of the Pineville Animal Control truck incident ensures proper animal care and control moving forward.”
